Project Details
In early 2018, Khalda Petroleum had 4 tapping fittings in the Abu Gharadig Field in Egypt protected with a Denso™ Petrolatum Tape system. The system was chosen to provide excellent corrosion prevention in the harsh desert environment in which the fittings are buried.
Firstly, a primer was applied to all areas of the fittings that were to be wrapped. Densyl™ Mastic was then used as a filler around bolts and uneven areas to create a smooth, level profile for the tape to be applied to. Filling in the uneven areas prevents pockets of air becoming trapped underneath the Denso™ Tape, creating an excellent airtight seal around the fitting.
To complete the system, a layer of Denso PVC Self-Adhesive Tape™ was applied to protect the petrolatum tape from being damaged by the harsh desert sand, thus completing the system.
